Hidden Gem – Quellorakay Ruins

Ollantaytambo is a wonderful Inca town that offers a lot of different activities which most visitors are not aware of.  One of these secret sites is the Quellorakay Ruins, hidden south from town. The ruins offer a great view, interesting architecture, and more private spaces to explore. While Ollantaytambo Fortress is usually full of travelers from all over the world, Quellorakay offers space to dive in deep with the Inca culture and connect to the site’s fascinating story.

How to get there you may ask? Once you find yourself near the market, start heading south through calle Imasumac, and right before Hospedaje Killasumaq, take a right. Walk for a maximum of 10 minutes south from the Market and you will find Quellorakay. Take your time while exploring the ruins as there is no one rushing you, but your limited amount of time in Ollantaytambo.

Personally, I highly recommend visiting Quellorakay Ruins because it is a quieter place, provides a wonderful view of the river and mountains, and shows you a great part of Inca history. Please let us know if you need any additional directions getting there, as the wonderful staff at Apu Lodge is always willing to help out with any additional questions or recommendations you might have.

Cheers!
